Collingwood Public Library
Led by WGD Architects, Tatham provided the civil and structural design of the Collingwood Public Library, located on Sainte Marie Street in the town’s downtown historic district. The LEED Gold building features exterior elevations that blend in with the historic architecture of the area but encloses a modern, functional interior.
The building provided a beautiful replacement for the aging former Collingwood Library building on Second Street. Containing two storeys for the library and municipal offices on the third floor, the building also features a green roof named and dedicated in memory of the late Terry Smart, a Tatham structural engineer and contributor to the project.
The building consists of a steel frame with hollowcore precast slab floors and OWSJ roof framing. Reinforced concrete elevator and stairwell cores are designed to resist the lateral loads. Working closely with WGD Architects, Tatham was able to optimize the design resulting in a tendered cost that was significantly under the project budget.
