Tatham was retained to conduct a Schedule C Class EA undertaking for the proposed widening of County Road 53 to four lanes, between County Road 21/Innisfil Beach Sideroad to the south limit of the City of Barrie, as identified in the County of Simcoe’s 2014 Transportation Master Plan Update.

Through Phase 1 and 2 of the Class EA process, the needs and justification assessment determined that the previously proposed widening was not required and localized improvements would adequately accommodate future traffic growth along the corridor. As a result, the undertaking was revised to a Schedule B Class EA with Phases 1 and 2 completed.

The preferred solution included maintaining the existing two-lane cross-section along County Road 53, upgrading the cross-section to reflect the current County standards by implementing intersection improvements such as turn lanes and traffic signals at select intersections in the study area.

Tatham Engineering is currently completing the detail design component of the project.
