Milford Bay Bridge Replacement

MUSKOKA LAKES, ON

Tatham completed the preliminary and detailed design for the replacement of a single-span concrete bridge located in Milford Bay. The aging structure was replaced with a new concrete deck on precast adjacent concrete box girder bridge supported on concrete pile caps and steel H-piles.

Working closely with the Township of Muskoka Lakes, our Bridges team was able to identify this replacement as the most suitable solution. Due to extremely poor soil conditions in the area, a previously preferred solution of replacing the existing bridge with multiple culverts was found to have a significant risk of settlement during the preliminary design and geotechnical review.

Throughout the project, Tatham coordinated with Transport Canada and Fisheries and Oceans Canada to ensure that all necessary approvals were obtained. This project involved close collaboration across different internal departments and extensive planning to ensure that the replacement bridge met the community’s current needs while remaining resilient for years to come.
