To keep energy costs low at the plant, our Mechanical team designed a heating system to run on natural gas. The use of gas-fired unit heaters in sewage treatment plants can only be considered for areas where there is no possibility of developing a hazardous atmosphere from treatment processes.
The tertiary filters, chemical storage and mixing areas, electrical and diesel generator rooms and operations office were all grouped together in a non-hazardous classified building, permitting the use of economical natural gas heat.
The newly designed heating system included natural gas-fired, fan-forced unit heaters controlled by electronic thermostats. Specialized ventilation was designed for diesel generator and chemical storage and feed areas.
