Situated in southern Georgian Bay adjacent to Tiny Township, Beausoleil First Nation is an Ojibwe First Nation whose main settlement is located on Christian Island, a 2745-hectare island accessible by boat or ferry. The island is home to a population of approximately 650, with the number doubling in the summer months.

Tatham was initially retained for a peer review of proposed drainage improvements, which later evolved into a drainage study and the development of a Master Drainage Plan (MDP). Designed with extensive consideration of varying water levels and the unique characteristics of the island, the plan identified stormwater deficiencies and provided various improvement recommendations prioritized in short and long-term goals as part of a wider capital improvement program.

Tatham’s multidisciplinary and collaborative approach provided an advantage to this project, with expertise provided by our Municipal, Water Resources, Hydrogeology, and Climate Resilience departments.

Tatham has since completed the design of drainage improvements to support hard surfacing of priority roads, hydrogeology services to advance the MDP, and road and traffic designs to accommodate a new ferry and associated terminal upgrades.
