METRES OF CREEK REALIGNMENT

The realignment and reconstruction of 600 metres of Taylor’s Creek and the construction of 2 culvert crossings, was completed for flood management associated with abutting residential developments. The work also included stream corridor naturalization with input from environmental and geomorphological specialized consultants. The natural channel design employed a riffle pool sequence combined with instream habitat and a widened floodplain to enhance the ecological and hydraulic function of the watercourse without the use of hardened surfaces. The design also included 2 culvert crossings designed to improve conveyance capacity and reduce flooding.

The design was approved by the Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority, Department of Fisheries and Oceans and Town of Collingwood and subsequently successfully constructed outside the applicable restricted timing windows for the protection of fish.
