Tatham was retained to provide engineering services for the replacement of two screw pumps and upgrades to the polymer system at the Collingwood Wastewater Treatment Plant. Originally installed in 1982, the pumps are utilized in the activated sludge pumping station to convey return activated sludge to the aeration tanks and waste activated sludge to the sludge thickener.
To accommodate a broad flow range, the screw pumps were replaced with submersible pumps and equipped with variable frequency drives. Level float switches were also replaced with an ultrasonic level transducer.
Additional work included the replacement of the existing polymer systems, various process, mechanical, electrical, and structural upgrades, grading improvements and asphalt resurfacing, and the construction of a new access road and gate. Led by our Water & Wastewater team, various Tatham disciplines collaborated on all aspects of the project.
