Selection based on several forward-thinking HR initiatives to support employees

Collingwood, ON: For the second year in a row, Tatham Engineering Limited (“Tatham”) is proud to announce it has been named one of Canada’s Top Small & Medium Employers of 2024 by Mediacorp Canada Inc. (“Mediacorp”).

A leading multidisciplinary civil, electrical, and mechanical engineering firm, Tatham was selected based on several forward-thinking HR initiatives supporting employee personal growth and professional development.

“With offices located within some of Ontario’s best landscapes, it has been a priority for Tatham to provide benefits that help staff feel rooted and connected to their local areas. Offering company ownership opportunities to high performers enables us to support the growth and development of our staff, all while fostering enduring relationships with both clients and community members,” said Kerrie Poleyko, Manager of Human Resources at Tatham.

“It is wonderful to see employees embracing opportunities like this one, in addition to others, like Tatham’s paid volunteer day policy and participation in local company-supported sports activities, to enrich their lives and their communities.”

Winners of the award are selected by the editors of Mediacorp based on eight criteria, including: Workplace; Work Atmosphere & Social; Health, Financial & Family Benefits; Vacation & Time Off; Employee Communications; Performance Management; Training & Skills Development; and Community Involvement.

This year, the competition highlighted several areas where Tatham stood out from other competitors, including:

  • 240 hours of paid staff volunteer time in 2023;
  • Company donations to over 100 local charities;
  • 36 weeks of maternity and parental leave wage top-up; and
  • Up to $5,000 in referral bonuses for each successful hire.

Additional benefits offered by Tatham to employees include:

  • Hybrid and flexible work arrangements;
  • Performance-based profit sharing and shareholding rewards;
  • Mentorship and professional development opportunities;
  • Mortgage assistance contributions of up to $20,000 per employee; and
  • Various recreational activities, social outings, and annual company-wide events.

The accolade also coincides with the firm’s 35th anniversary. Tatham was first founded in 1988 in Collingwood and now operates additional branch offices in Barrie, Bracebridge, Orillia, and Ottawa.

“To be recognized as one of Canda’s Top Small & Medium Employers this year feels uniquely special. Cultivating close relationships between our staff and the communities we serve has been a longstanding value for our firm,” said Dan Hurley, President at Tatham.

“Seeing the positive impact that fostering a supportive workplace culture can have on our employees is truly inspiring. I am confident that our commitment to nurturing this inclusive environment will contribute to our continued growth and success.”
