President
Dan Hurley
B.A.Sc., P.Eng., LEED AP
Dan Hurley is the President of Tatham Engineering, and is tasked with developing our strategic and business plan to continue our success well beyond our current 30 years. Dan oversees the Executive Leadership team which is made up of the Executive Vice President, Vice President Head Office and Vice President Branch Offices, as well as Managers from Administration, Human Resources, Marketing and IT.
Dan’s engineering experience spans over 25 years, having served as a Project Engineer, Project Manager and/or Project Advisor on a wide variety of civil engineering projects covering the land development, water resources and municipal engineering disciplines. His technical expertise is broad with a focus on water resources projects including those related to floodplain management, stormwater management and the proper environmental implementation for development and rehabilitation/reconstruction projects. This technical expertise has led to the opportunity to provide expert evidence on water resources matters in front of the LPAT and OMB on a variety of technical specialties, including hydrology, floodplain assessments, bridge hydraulic analyses, stormwater management, water resources policy interpretation, surface water monitoring and water budgets. As a LEED Accredited Professional, Dan is committed to creating sustainable designs while considering environmental issues on all projects.
Outside of work, Dan is rarely stationary taking advantage of what Collingwood and surrounding area has to offer for outdoor activity including mountain and road biking, hiking, skiing and fishing. Dan also believes strongly in giving back to his community and is a long time hockey coach and a member of the Rotary Club of Collingwood South Georgian Bay.
Executive Vice President
Bill Van Ryn
B.Eng., P.Eng.
Bill Van Ryn is the Executive Vice President with a focus on the development of company-wide long-term business strategies, risk management, financial sustainability, corporate planning and business opportunities.
Upon graduating from university and joining the organization as his first, and only engineering employer, in 1989 (Employee 011), Bill has served as Project Engineer, Project Manager, Branch Manager, Vice President Branch Operations and now Executive Vice President. For 30 years, the last 21 of which have been as Manager of our Bracebridge office, Bill has been responsible for a diverse range of projects covering all aspects of civil engineering, including land development, marine, municipal, structural, transportation, water and waste water, and water resources. He has been meaningfully involved in many significant infrastructure projects in central Ontario from conception to completion through the Class Environmental Assessment, costing, planning, design, contract administration and commissioning phases.
Bill is a designated Consulting Engineer with PEO and is a member of the Business Risk Committee for Consulting Engineers Ontario.
Outside the office, Bill enjoys his time with his wife and family in the back country and on the water in central and northern Ontario.
Vice President
Michael Cullip
B.Eng. & Mgmt, M.Eng., P.Eng.
Michael Cullip is the Vice President, where he uses his experience and expertise to build and strengthen client relations, explore project opportunities, and ensure professional delivery of engineering services for our Collingwood operations. With over 25 years of experience, he provides direction on projects from inception to completion, with a particular focus on transportation, land development and municipal infrastructure projects, with hands-on involvement throughout. Embracing the methodical and exacting nature of engineering, Michael is also responsible for the development and implementation of Tatham Standards and the Tatham Quality Program (Chair of the Quality Committee), both of which are implemented across all offices to ensure adherence to professional standards and quality best practices.
Within the community, Michael has coached soccer for many years (seeing all 5 of his children participate) and has been on the soccer club’s Board of Directors for almost 10 years, currently serving as Club President. When not on the soccer pitch, he has spent time at the volleyball courts, basketball courts and ice rinks enjoying his children’s endeavours.
Vice President
Bryan Stanton
Consulting Engineer
Bryan Stanton is a Vice President, responsible for all community development projects across the company.
Bryan’s experience as a professional engineer encompasses over 30 years of providing consulting engineering advice, expert witness testimony, senior project management, concept development, design, tendering, peer review, quality control and contract administration services on a broad range of municipal and land development projects.
Projects include residential and commercial subdivisions and site plans, and large scale municipal infrastructure projects, encompassing master planning, water supply and distribution, sewage collection, road reconstruction, drainage and stormwater management, terrain modelling, and airport improvements.
Bryan is a designated Consulting Engineer with PEO, a member of the ACEC-Ontario MEA Liaison Committee, and a member of the Board of Directors and Planning Committee for ACEC-Canada.
In his personal time, Bryan is a commercial pilot and enjoys bush flying, canoeing, camping, exploring Canada’s northern landscapes, and spending time with his wife Tanya, stepson Chase, and their Cairn Terriers.
Director, Manager – Land Development
Jeff Akitt
B.Eng. & Mgmt., P.Eng
Jeff, like several other staff, started his career at Tatham Engineering through a co-op/summer placement and followed with 4 subsequent work terms prior to joining the organization full-time upon graduating in 2000. Now, Jeff has over 20 years of engineering experience with a predominant focus on land development. As a Manager, he is responsible for a team of engineering professionals with a mandate to provide high-valued service and cost-effective solutions for residential, commercial, industrial and institutional projects, elements of which include site layout, site plans, subdivision plans, stormwater management, municipal servicing, and overall and lot grading. Jeff’s diverse background encompasses the lifecycle of the project – from the initial planning stages (due diligence, economical evaluations, concept planning), through detailed design, acquiring approvals, formalizing agreements, and successful implementation (construction inspection and contract administration).
As an accomplished ambassador for the United Way since 2014, Jeff has championed fundraising campaigns netting in excess of $115,000 for local charities. Devoted to a healthy lifestyle and fitness, Jeff is an avid sportsperson having earned a national championship for baseball while attending university and also coached and managed teams at various levels including the national stage.
Director, Ottawa Office Manager
Jeremy Ash
B.Sc.Eng., P.Eng.
Jeremy is the Manager of the Ottawa office, responsible for office operations and overall project development, acquisition and completion. He has over 12 years of design and project management experience in the fields of water resources and municipal engineering during which his expertise has been applied to a large number of municipal infrastructure and land development projects including residential subdivisions, commercial and industrial site plans, and road and infrastructure renewal. Jeremy has completed environmental assessments, stormwater management plans and stormwater management master plans, hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, floodplain studies and natural hazard assessments. He also regularly completes engineering peer reviews of behalf of Municipalities and Conservation Authorities on matters related to drainage and stormwater management, erosion and sediment controls, floodplains and policy review.
Jeremy is a father of two young children and actively participates in local farmers’ market events and initiatives.
Director, Manager – Municipal
Allan Brownridge
B.E.Sc., P.Eng.
Allan is a Director of Tatham Engineering and Manager within the Municipal department. He brings over 15 years of diverse professional experience, providing project management, design and contract administration services for a broad range of successful private and public projects involving large municipal infrastructure renewal and road urbanization, land development, residential subdivisions and commercial/industrial site plans. He also has experience preparing studies related to development charges, master servicing, functional servicing and stormwater management.
As a father to 3 young boys, Allan spends most his free time in the hockey arena or on the baseball diamond volunteering as a coach, while serving on the executive of Wasaga Beach Minor Baseball. He is passionate about baseball, golf and cooking and enjoys backyard BBQ’s and movie nights with his wife and kids.
Director, Manager – Business Operations
Sonya Franks
As the Manager of Business Operations at Tatham, Sonya is responsible for the efficient administration of the company and oversees human resources, marketing, general administration, and accounting. Sonya first joined Tatham’s head office in Collingwood in 1993 while completing her final year of school. Over her 30 years at Tatham, she has played an essential role in supporting the growth of the firm.
When she is not in the office, Sonya enjoys reading, hiking, baking, and spending time with her husband, family, and friends.
Manager – Buildings
John Johnston
B.Sc.Eng., P.Eng
John is Manager of Buildings in our Structural Department, with over 25 years of experience as a structural engineer, accumulating diverse experience pertaining to the design of new structures, and the investigation and rehabilitation of existing structures. Stemming from this, John has a solid and practical understanding of concrete, wood, steel and masonry structures having successfully completed many residential, commercial, institutional and industrial projects. John’s experience includes the investigation, design and rehabilitation of buildings and bridge structures; façade restoration of high-rises; the rehabilitation of reinforced concrete structures; the installation and repair of waterproofing systems; the structural design of small to medium sized buildings; and building condition assessments of existing structures.
When he is not providing structural solutions, John enjoys spending time outdoors skiing, snowshoeing, sailing, hiking and cycling.
Manager - Climate Resilience & Sustainability
Amanda Kellett
B.Sc.Eng., P.Eng.
Amanda has 15 years of experience working in the field of water resources engineering including stormwater management, natural hazard assessments, hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, natural channel design and water balance assessments. She is skilled in providing water resources solutions related to land development activities, municipal infrastructure design and renewal, aggregate extraction, energy development, agricultural activity and flood protection works. Amanda has extensive experience in completing Stormwater Management Master Plans and Master Drainage Plan studies and is highly knowledgeable about water resources regulatory requirements. She also specializes in shoreline engineering, including shoreline hazard assessments and the design of shoreline revetment structures, having a certificate in coastal engineering.
In her spare time, Amanda enjoys outdoor adventures including mountain biking, hiking, paddling, skiing and snowshoeing with her family. She is a member of the United Way Women’s Leadership Council and a former board member of the PEO Simcoe-Muskoka Chapter. Amanda also volunteers her time speaking to students in schools and universities about engineering.
Bracebridge Office Manager
Ryan Mannings
C.E.T.
As a Group Leader in Tatham’s Municipal Engineering department and Manager of the Bracebridge office, Ryan holds the responsibility of overseeing office operations and ensuring the successful development, acquisition, and completion of projects in the Muskoka region. Since joining our Bracebridge office in 2002, Ryan has developed a diverse experience base spanning all aspects of Municipal, Water Resources, Transportation, Coastal/Marine and Land Development Engineering,
A Muskoka native, Ryan is knowledgeable about unique regional challenges and opportunities, and enthusiastic about shaping the future of his community. Outside of the office, Ryan enjoys spending time outdoors with his wife and 2 children. Ryan is an active member of the community and coaches minor hockey in the colder months.
Manager – Land Development, Barrie Office Manager
Nick Millington
B.E.Sc., P.Eng.
As Manager of Land Development and the Barrie office, Nick leads a team of engineering and technical staff with efficiency and productivity in mind. Nick has over 10 years of experience in land development and stormwater management engineering, and his expertise includes site layout, site servicing, and grading design, with experience in hydrologic modelling, natural hazard assessments, and stormwater management. Nick is responsible for overseeing the execution and delivery of residential, commercial, industrial, and institutional developments, from the initial planning stages through to detailed design, approvals, and construction.
When he is not at the office, Nick can be found spending time enjoying the outdoors with his wife and two kids, as well as playing hockey and golf.
Manager - Electrical & Mechanical
Gerhard Runge
P.Eng.
Gerhard Runge has been providing engineering services in Canada since 1988 as an electrical power, lighting, instrumentation and controls engineer. His clients are from municipal, land development, utility, industrial, institutional and renewable energy sectors. With his extensive electrical experience, Gerhard has provided solutions to health care facilities, civic centres, strip malls, university campuses, water and wastewater treatment plants, pumping stations, water storage tanks and reservoirs, emergency and standby generator systems, cogeneration systems, automation systems, SCADA-control-instrumentation systems, substations and overhead distribution pole line designs.
As the President of Collingwood-based Runge and Associates Ltd., Gerhard managed a team of 16 electrical and mechanical engineers and support staff for nearly 15 years. In 2021, Tatham acquired Runge and Gerhard and his team joined the Tatham family.
When Gerhard is not in the office, he enjoys being in the backcountry, either on foot, bike or in a canoe with his family and friends. Gerhard has become so skilled in outdoor camping, many call him “Ranger Ger.”
Director, Manager - Land Development
Randy Simpson
B.A.Sc., P.Eng.
Randy is a Director of Tatham Engineering and a Manager in Land Development. With over 25 years of design and project management experience in the surface water resources and land development fields of engineering, his diverse portfolio of projects includes residential subdivisions, low rise condominiums, commercial development, golf courses, master drainage plans, bridge hydraulic design, and flood water
Randy works to give back to the local community, volunteering with local charities and sports clubs including serving at the board level. His leisure time includes canoeing, hiking, fishing, boating and a good book.
Orillia Office Manager
Nick Smith
B.Eng.Mgt., M.A.Sc., P.Eng.
Nick is a Senior Engineer in the Buildings department and the Manager of the Orillia office. As Office Manager, he is responsible for office operations and overall project development, acquisition, and completion. With over a decade of experience in Structural Engineering, Nick has overseen a diverse portfolio of projects and is passionate about building and maintaining client and contractor relationships. He is also a member of the Orillia & District Construction Association.
Nick’s fond childhood memories of farming, logging, and building are largely what inspired him to become a structural engineer. In his spare time, enjoys hunting, fishing, and spending time with his wife and 3 children.
Manager – Water & Wastewater
Hari Sridhar
B.Tech, M.A.Sc, P.Eng., PMP
Hari is the Manager of the Water and Wastewater department and is based out of our Barrie office. With over a decade in his field, Hari is experienced in the design of pumping facilities and linear infrastructure, problem-solving related to hydraulics and water loss, asset management, condition assessment, field testing/monitoring, project management, and business development. Throughout his career, Hari has demonstrated a high standard of quality management and team leadership in a variety of water and wastewater projects across North America. As a member of the American Water Works Association’s Water Loss Control Committee, Hari is passionate about understanding and developing system-specific leakage benchmarking techniques for utilities in North America.
Outside the office, Hari enjoys hiking and spending time by the water with his wife and their fur baby, Singha. Hari is also an avid cricket player and plays in the Toronto Cricket League.
Manager - Water Resources
Daniel Twigger
B.Sc.Eng., P.Eng.
Daniel has over 19 years of experience in the field of water resources engineering specializing in stormwater management, natural hazard assessments, hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, surface water monitoring and water balance calculations. He has applied his expertise to a variety of projects including land development (residential, commercial and industrial), environmental assessments, comprehensive stormwater management master plans, municipal infrastructure renewal projects, hydraulic bridge designs, Aggregate Resource Act license applications, natural channel designs and compliance monitoring. Further to these responsibilities, Daniel also sits on the Quality Committee.
Daniel is an avid hunter and fisherman who also enjoys golf, baseball and wood working.
Manager - Transportation
John Velick
B.Eng., P. Eng.
As the Manager of Transportation Engineering, John draws from his 18 years of experience working in the public and private sectors to provide balanced and thorough solutions for clients. He specializes in the design and project management of road and highway reconstruction projects, including various components such as active transportation, traffic calming, and traffic signals. Throughout his career in the public sector, John has overseen land development review, capital infrastructure planning and implementation, asset management, and council and stakeholder collaboration. His expertise in the field has led him to work with clients such as the Ministry of Transportation, Metrolinx, and a multitude of municipalities across Ontario.
In his spare time, John enjoys cooking, hiking, skiing, listening to music, and spending time at the beach with his wife and two children.
Manager - Bridges
Brian Wood
P.Eng.
As Manager – Bridges, Brian provides leadership and bridge expertise focusing on business development, resource forecasting, short- and long-term strategic planning, technical guidance, safety, and mentorship.
Graduating in 1990, he gained experience in both the private and public sectors. His work evolved through field activities, design, construction, and management including leadership responsibilities. He has worked across several provinces both in metropolitan and rural areas experiencing the uniqueness of each region. Brian has fulfilled the roles of office branch manager, leader of specialized teams, and management of structural and transportation teams. Through mentoring and engaging technical and non-technical team members, Brian has most enjoyed cultivating emerging business and technical leaders.
Brian lives an active lifestyle through walking, mountain biking, kayaking, hiking, skiing, and cooking. Enjoying these activities and life with his family have always been part of his approach to well-being.
