100 Little Avenue Rebuild & Intensification

BARRIE, ON

On the night of April 23, 2018, a serious fire at 100 Little Avenue in the Barrie Housing Allanview Place complex displaced all residents of the 25-unit, three-storey building. The building suffered significant structural damage which prompted complete demolition of the roof and third storey framing.

Following the fire, the insurance company and Barrie Housing put together a design, not only for repair of the third storey, but also for additions and upgrades including an additional storey to increase density, an elevator to improve accessibility at the former walk-up, and a new HVAC system.

Tatham Engineering was retained in 2019 to oversee the construction phase of the project, including contract administration, construction review, and structural design support during construction. Construction wrapped up in May 2021 and Barrie Housing welcomed tenants to occupy total of 36 units, 11 of which are fully accessible.
