Tatham was retained by the City of Barrie for the improvement of Duckworth Street – a central roadway linking motorists from Highway 400 to the downtown strip. The improvement project was necessitated by broken pavement and dated infrastructure that had caused frustration amongst residents and drivers.
Prior to this project, Tatham completed a Class Environmental Assessment for Duckworth Street which identified several solutions, including the implementation of standard and buffered bicycle lanes, as well as various road widenings (up to 5 lanes). Additionally, the project included replacing the existing water main, storm, and sanitary sewers.
In order to align with the City of Barrie’s budget expenditure, Tatham divided the contract into two phases of construction. Extensive utility test hole investigations and coordination of utility relocations were also performed to maximize efficiencies and ensure conflicts during construction would be minimized.
