Meaford Bridge 037 Rehabilitation

GREY COUNTY, ON

Originally constructed around 1975, Bridge 037 spans Pete’s Creek on Sykes Street in the Town of Meaford. The structure featured gabion basket walls extending along the streambanks from each corner; however, scour and embankment erosion led to undermining and the eventual failure of the southeast gabion wall. Additionally, existing deck drains contributed to localized deterioration of the underside of the concrete deck.

Tatham Engineering provided a full range of services for this rehabilitation project, including background review, environmental and geotechnical assessments, cost estimating, preliminary and detailed design, and construction phase services.

The scope of work included reconstruction of the gabion walls, implementation of erosion control and bank stabilization measures, concrete repairs to the deck soffit, improvement of drain outlets, and replacement of the roadside barrier system.

The completed improvements have restored the bridge’s functionality and extended its service life—enhancing safety and resilience for the community for years to come.
