Structure 201 spans the western branch of the Turtle Lagoon canal on Poplar Crescent in Lagoon City, a neighbourhood defined in part by the architectural concrete headwalls that frame this crossing. When significant settlement caused by backfill loss began compromising the aging three-barrel steel culvert, the Township of Ramara needed a replacement solution that would restore structural integrity without sacrificing the heritage character those headwalls represent.

Tatham provided full multidisciplinary services, including topographic surveying, geotechnical investigation, and hydrologic and hydraulic analysis. Regulatory coordination with the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority and Fisheries and Oceans Canada was managed throughout design and construction. The central design challenge was replacing the culvert barrels while keeping the architectural headwalls in place, a constraint that required careful excavation sequencing and custom temporary bracing to protect the headwalls during installation of the new concrete pipes.

The result is a structure that will serve the Lagoon City community for generations, with the headwalls that define the neighbourhood streetscape preserved exactly as they were.
