As Barrie continues to grow as Simcoe County’s economic hub, strategic infrastructure investments are essential. Identified as a key corridor in the City’s Multi-Modal Active Transportation Master Plan, Bayview Drive plays a critical role in supporting the efficient movement of people and goods.
Building on earlier improvements along Big Bay Point Road and its intersection with Bayview Drive, the City advanced corridor upgrades with the reconstruction of Bayview Drive from Big Bay Point Road to Little Avenue. Working closely with the City of Barrie, Tatham’s multidisciplinary team transformed the roadway from a congested two-lane facility into a modern, multi-modal corridor capable of supporting future growth.
The project introduced a three-lane cross-section with a dedicated centre turn lane, off-road cycle tracks on both sides, and a continuous accessible sidewalk to improve safety and connectivity for all users.
Significant underground upgrades were completed concurrently, including a new watermain, replacement storm sewers, and enhanced culvert crossings. Integrated stormwater features—such as Jellyfish filtration systems—were designed to achieve approximately 80% removal of Total Suspended Solids, supporting the City’s environmental objectives.
