Tatham Engineering is featured in a Canadian Consulting Engineer article announcing the groundbreaking of the David & Helen Capin Regional Centre for Pets and People (RCPP) in Collingwood — a project that brings together purpose-driven design, advanced engineering, and deep community impact.
The article highlights the exciting milestone for the Georgian Triangle Humane Society (GTHS) and details the contributions of the project team — including Tatham’s role in providing mechanical, electrical, structural, and civil engineering services.
At 19,000 square feet, the new facility will dramatically increase GTHS’s capacity to care for animals, growing from space designed for just 500 animals per year to one that will support over 5,500 annually. The article emphasizes how the new space will be tailored to reduce animal stress, improve infection control, and provide a healthier environment for both pets and people.
From a mechanical perspective, our team is designing a system with healthcare-grade ventilation, ensuring fresh air circulation and minimizing the spread of airborne illnesses — a critical consideration in high-volume animal care facilities.
As highlighted in the article, our scope includes:
🔹 HVAC, plumbing, and lighting systems specifically designed for animal wellbeing
🔹 Structural design, including wind and seismic load systems
🔹 Site servicing, stormwater management, and traffic impact reporting
🔹 Full engineering oversight throughout construction to ensure performance and resilience
Our team is working alongside Bertram Construction and Unity Design Studio on this project that raises the standard of care for animals and strengthens the local community.
