The Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH) provides health care to patients in Barrie and the Simcoe Muskoka region. Currently, patients from these areas are transferred to the South Lake Hospital (Newmarket) for cardiac surgeries such as stints and bypasses, etc. Within the next two years, these procedures will be facilitated in Barrie. RVH is also the home of the Simcoe Muskoka Regional Cancer Centre. Obviously, the hospital’s need for funding is continuous. There is always a need for new equipment and training. Their newest equipment is cutting-edge, and this has helped to attract and retain young qualified doctors for high-end cardiac and cancer treatments.
The “Hearts and Minds” campaign launched in May 2015 to reach out for support from across North Simcoe Muskoka. The goal of this campaign was to bring a cardiac care centre to the hospital, as well as a youth mental health center – along with supporting women’s cancer services, teaching and research and new equipment. CCTA donated $10,000 towards this amazing cause. The Hearts and Minds campaign has now surpassed its goal of raising $25 million and RVH was able to open the regional Child and Youth Mental Health unit in December 2017 followed by the Cardiac-Intervention Unit in January 2018. We are very fortunate to have RVH as our regional hospital!
